Florida International Terminal (FIT) concession extended for 10 years

Jointly with the contract extension granted until 2025, SAAM-operated terminal has the option of adding another two contract renewals for 5 years each.

Florida, United States, April 07, 2016.- Florida International Terminal (FIT), terminal operated by SAAM since 2005 in Port Everglades – Fort Lauderdale, Florida, U.S., received the good news that its concession had been renewed for a period of 10 years.

Jointly with the contract extension granted until 2025, FIT has the option of adding two new renewals for 5 years each, allowing it to undertake significant works planned for the coming years. “We are very pleased with the concession extension, since it is a reflection of the serious and responsible work we have been doing. We have consolidated as an alternative for the import and export of products to and from Florida and the East coast of the United States, with more and better services”, stated FIT CEO Klaus Stadthagen.

Since its opening, cargo movement through FIT has grown significantly, reaching over 170 thousand TEUS in 2015. At present, FIT services world-class shipping companies such as Hamburg Süd, Hapag Lloyd, Yang Ming and, more recently, Sealand and APL.

Together with the extension of its concession, FIT has another major project: works to define its relocation inland, including a new complex of accesses to the terminal, an office building and a significant capacity increase to tend to refrigerated loads.

Parallel to this, the Port Authority is about to begin works that will allow Port Everglades to increase the zone for vessel maneuvering, increase depth and width of the access channel, as well as a significant increase in the length of piers, an essential project to attract larger ships. All of these works are expected to be finalized in 2020.

SAAM is a Chilean multinational company present in 15 companies through its participation in port terminals, tugboats/towage and logistics operations, and generating over 10 thousand jobs. It is the second largest port operator in South America, servicing eleven ports in the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Chile.
