The Company agreed to transfer the stockpile pad in Corral Bajo so that it can be used by the community.

January 18, 2017. With the attendance of the regional Mayor, Mr. Egon Montecinos, and a musical and cultural activity held jointly with the families from Corral, a Collaboration Agreement was signed between the Defense Committee of Corral Bajo and Portuaria Corral. Through this Agreement, the Company agrees to transfer the lands where, until 2015, a chips stockpile operated (Corral Bajo), giving the private plot and making available the maritime concession, so that said lands may be destined to nonprofit community use.

Portuaria Corral’s CEO, Diego Sprenger, emphasized that “this agreement is the result of the joint work and dialogue between the community and the authorities. We wish to reaffirm our commitment to the community and with the development of sustainable operations that will protect the environment and the image of the community, we will continue working to this effect.”

In turn, the spokesman of the Committee for the Defense of the Environment, Juan Valenzuela, while presenting the project that will be developed in future on the land, stated that “this is the dream of many, an achievement of a few, which we must share with all. The important thing is that the community knows that here we will work to create a project for all citizens. There is much to do yet, but we want to emphasize that the port company has had a big turn-around, meaning that they now have assumed the importance of being responsible regarding the place where they are located, the citizens and the environment”.

The document notes that the parties agree that, in order to achieve the goals intended, many analysis, studies and authorizations of various authorities are required to realize the steps of the agreement. For these purposes, they will meet on a regular basis to make sure progress is made in the process.

Portuaria Corral and the Committee have been having talks and meetings for over a year, period during which several improvements have been made, such as ending the chips stockpiling in Corral Bajo, reducing the height of the fences surrounding the place, changing the gates, as well as important improvements in the operation located in Amargos, where the operations of Portuaria Corral have concentrated.
