The company is the first tug operator in the country to receive seals from Huella Chile. Also, this year it stands out for emitting 3 thousand fewer tons of Co2 into the environment, representing a decrease of 15.09% in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Santiago, November 30, 2020. SAAM Towage Chile, a SAAM subsidiary, was recognized by the Ministry of the Environment’s Huella Chile program for measuring and assuring its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This is the third time that the company has received the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions seal. This year it also received the reduction seal, making it the country’s first tug operator to receive this certification.

The Country Manager of SAAM Towage Chile, Cristián Cifuentes, commented, “This recognition demonstrates the company’s dedication and hard work to make changes that contribute to sustainability, such as optimizing fuel consumption. We are proud of the commitment we have made to be more cognizant of the gases our operations release into the atmosphere and, in this spirit, to work to make our processes more and more efficient. This seal is an incentive to continue along this path.”

The executive also specified, “The reduction represents a decrease of 15.09% in GHG emissions with respect to the base year of quantification, meaning that we have stopped emitting more than 3,000 tons of Co2 equivalent (tons of Co2e)”.

Huella Chile is a program from the Ministry of the Environment that works to promote the calculation, reporting and management of greenhouse gases (GHG) in public and private-sector organizations. Our results were verified by Bureau Veritas, a certifying agency that reviewed both the annual quantification and the effectiveness of the GHG emissions reduction project for our 21 tugs operating in 19 terminals throughout the country.
