The Colombian terminal operated by SAAM is investing US$3.5 million in two projects which will improve efficiency to better serve its clients.

Cartagena de Indias, May 10, 2017. Puerto Buenavista in Colombia, where SAAM has participated since 2012, is currently developing several projects to increase its competitiveness, which imply more and better infrastructure with the purpose of providing a more efficient service to its clients.

These are two investments totalling around US$3.5 million, which contemplate the construction of a 4,300 m2 warehouse for lime storage, and the installation of a new conveyor belt in the dock (with a capacity of 6,000 tons per day), which started operating a few days ago.

“Our goal is to strengthen ourselves in order to provide better service to our clients. They are projects that allow us to expand our infrastructure and enable having greater dock availability, thus increasing the efficiency of daily operations”, stated Alejandro Uribe, CEO of Puerto Bellavista.

Regarding the warehouse, it involves an investment of US$500 thousand. It is a shed-type warehouse with 4,300 m2 of space and will service loads for Lhoist Corporate, one of the major lime producers in the world. On the other hand, the new conveyor belt involved an investment of US$3 million and a construction period of 10 months, after which higher unloading yields are expected, which will allow receiving more ships and offer other services to spot ships.

Puerto Buenavista is a multipurpose port that provides services for general cargo, solid bulk, automobiles, machinery and project loads. In 2016, the terminal mobilized 390,000 tons, mainly bulk loads. It has a 211 meter dock and a draught of 11 meters.
