The new Super Post Panamax cranes are part of a full expansion plan being implemented in the terminal, which includes extending the dock by 120 meters and incorporating the adjacent Trinipuerto terminal through a 40-year lease.

Guayaquil, May 23, 2017.- Terminal Portuario Guayaquil (TPG), operated by the Chilean company SAAM since 2006, received two new Super Post Panamax cranes, which are the largest and most modern in Ecuador.

The new cranes will help improve safety, efficiency and services at the terminal. They have a lift height of 105 meters (similar to a 32-floor building), a horizontal outreach of 60 meters (reaching 22 rows of containers) and container capacity of 65 tons, enabling them to load or unload two, 20-foot containers at a time.

“We are the first company to bring this type of crane to Ecuador, which will make our port more competitive. With this new equipment, we are enhancing the quality of the service we provide our customers and strengthening trade in Guayaquil”, commented TPG’s executive director, Enrique Brito.

The new cranes are part of a full expansion plan being implemented in the terminal, which includes extending the dock by 120 meters (from 360 to 480 meters). In addition, TPG incorporated the facilities of the adjacent Trinipuerto terminal through a 40-year lease, which will double its container transfer capacity and enable it to enter the bulk cargo market.

“The expanded infrastructure and new equipment will enable us to maintain our status as the most productive port in Ecuador and efficiently face new challenges that may arise,” explained Enrique Brito.

TPG is a port operated by SAAM that provides services at the base of the Santa Ana Estuary located in Isla Trinitaria, a suburb of the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador. In 2016, the port handled 1.5 million tons of cargo (218 thousand TEUs).
