Based on a study by Employers for Youth (EFY), the port, logistics and towage company ranked eighth.

Santiago, June 21, 2017. SAAM, which provides port, towage and logistics services, was recognized by Employers for Youth (EFY) in its FirstJob ranking as one of the best companies for young people.

More than 7,000 young professionals from 35 companies took part in the survey. They evaluated their employers on several dimensions: recognition, career development, benefits, recruitment, infrastructure, reputation, innovation, work environment and quality of life.

One of the most interesting aspects of this measurement is the attributes that the young people emphasize when choosing their current organization: learning and development (21%), job stability (14%), corporate image (12%), benefits (11%) and work environment (9%).

In this spirit, SAAM has driven a talent development strategy where young professionals play the leading role. This strategy is designed to attract, retain and develop professionals that can lead the Company in the future, thus supporting the sustainability of the business.

Among the activities that stand out are SAAM’s Professional Internship Program, which is open to future engineers from the country’s best universities that show leadership potential and a willingness to learn. Participants in the two-month program are put in charge of a specific project at the Company or any of its domestic subsidiaries and provided support from a mentor. The final project is presented to the Company’s executive team.

“They leave their mark and, therefore, are the first recruitment source we look at when we have job openings,” commented the Head of SAAM’s Organizational Development Division, Carolina Cereceda.

Another initiative is the Trainee Program, where participants are engaged in high-impact projects at the Company or internships in one of the 13 countries where SAAM has operations. “We want to strengthen the growth of our professionals. In less than two years, they are already capable of taking on another role with equal or greater responsibility at SAAM or its companies in Chile or abroad,” added SAAM’s Human Resources Manager, Gastón Moya.

At SAAM, millennials (born between 1980 and 1995) represent 37.46% of the Company’s total workforce.

SAAM is a multinational corporation providing services for international trade through its three divisions: Port Terminals, Towage Services and Logistics. With 55 years in business, SAAM has operations in 13 countries in North, Central and South America, creating jobs for more than 10 thousand employees. It is currently one of the main port operators in South America, and a leader in towage services in the Americas and the fourth largest player worldwide.
