With an investment of US$60 million, the private port operated by SAAM has put into operation an extended berth, new support areas, a system for transferring bulk products and modern equipment, such as the largest ship to shore (STS) cranes in Ecuador.

At a ceremony complete with fireworks, attended by authorities and executives from the port and shipping industries, Terminal Portuario Guayaquil (TPG) officially inaugurated new works to duplicate its transfer capacity.
The extended berth is part of an intensive upgrading and investment plan that the terminal has been implementing over the last two years, which also includes the incorporation of two STS Super Post Panamax cranes, the highest operating in Ecuador, and 5 RTG cranes. With this, the terminal will have a berth 480 meters in length and 4 STS cranes and 7 RTG cranes.
This is in addition to the assets of the terminal adjacent to its operations (formerly Trinipuerto) and the equipping of 4.5 additional hectares for support areas, totaling 22.2 hectares.
These developments will make TPG a multipurpose terminal that can transfer both containers and bulk cargo, in order to properly fulfill new contracts and customer needs that will triple its cargo movements. The new services include Conosur, Mediterranean (MED-MSW), America, Asia and Eurosal, which will connect it to 22 countries on four continents.
“We are concluding an important process for our terminal and for Guayaquil. With an investment of US$ 60 million, our port can double its current container transfer capacity and enter the bulk cargo market, positioning us as one of the country’s main ports. This will enable us to support both foreign trade and employment in Ecuador, since this new expansion will generate 165 additional jobs,” commented the executive president of TPG, Enrique Brito.
