SAAM and “Desafío Levantemos Chile” Sign Cooperation Agreement

The Agreement makes available the use of space within the company’s cargo terminals or containers, to store, organize, and distribute aid in the event of emergencies or natural disasters.

Santiago, July 13, 2016.- SAAM, leading company in the provision of port services, tugboats and logistics, and “Fundación Desafío Levantemos Chile”, signed a cooperation agreement to make available the use of space within the company’s cargo terminals or containers in the event of emergencies or natural disasters.

This Agreement, of a permanent nature, will allow making the Foundation and SAAM strategic partners to use the facilities provided by the Company, to store, organize and distribute aid to the people affected by disasters, prior review that the prevailing conditions so allow it. Currently, SAAM has 3 intermodal terminals (Iquique, San Antonio and Valparaíso) plus other 7 cargo terminals and warehouses all over the country.

SAAM’s General Manager, Macario Valdés, at the signing of the agreement highlighted that “For our Company, social responsibility is a priority, and what can be better than to be able to contribute in an emergency, collaborating with “Desafío” in helping the neediest and trying to return things to normal as soon as possible.”  In this work, we believe we can contribute with our infrastructure and logistics capacity in several Chilean cities. From Arica to Punta Arenas.”

In turn, Nicolás Birrell, Executive Director of “Desafío” assured that “this kind of partnership allow us to be more prepared every day, so that, when faced with an emergency, we can continue being efficient in the delivery of aid. For “Desafío”, this is crucial: to be always the first to arrive with efficient solutions, and if in this action we are joined by companies such as SAAM, we know that the disaster areas will receive effective solutions.”

The activity was attended by Nicolás Birrell, Executive Director, and Askaan Wohlt, Director of Operations of the Foundation “Desafío Levantemos Chile”, while SAAM was represented by Macario Valdés and Felipe Barison, General Manager and Manager of Logistics Chile, respectively.

SAAM is a Chilean multinational company with 55 years of experience and presence in 15 countries throughout America, with port operations, tugboats and logistics, generating more than 10 thousand jobs.

“Fundación Desafío Levantemos Chile” is a non-profit organization created by Felipe Cubillos Sigall, on the occasion of the 2010 earthquake, and the spirit of which is to work in Chile with those who wish to help themselves, by creating connections with those who can help, in the areas of entrepreneurship, education, health, culture, sports and emergencies.
