 Guayaquil, July 25, 2016.-

Terminal Portuario Guayaquil (TPG), port operated by the Chilean company SAAM since 2006, completed the purchase of two new Super Post Panamax cranes, which will be the largest cranes to have arrived in Ecuador.

The new equipment, which will allow reinforcing the terminal’s safety, efficiency and services, are 105 meters high (similar to a 32-floor building) and have a horizontal scope of 60 meters over the ship (reaching 22 container rows). For tipping containers, the cranes will have a capacity of 65 tons, being able to embark or download two 20-feet containers at once.

“We are the first to bring this type of crane to Ecuador, allowing us to raise the competitiveness level of our port. Through this effort, we aim to strengthen the quality of service provided to our clients and promote commercial exchange in Guayaquil”, stated TPG Chief Executive Enrique Brito.

The new cranes, which will arrive in March, 2017, were purchased from the Chinese company ZPMC and are part of the pier expansion project, work that involves an extension of the wharf from 360 to 480 meters.

Terminal Portuario Guayaquil is a privately-owned port that SAAM began operating in July, 2006, with a concession of 40 years.
