Concepción, March 10, 2017. General Manager of San Vicente Terminal Internacional (SVTI), Eduardo González, delivered the first of 12 homes to Hualqui families affected by the forest fires occurred in January of this year.

The donation was done together with SAAM, one of the leading companies in the Americas in port operations and the provision of services for foreign trade in the Biobio region. SAAM, in addition to being one of SVTI’s shareholders, is present in the towage and logistics businesses in the region.

The idea of helping this town emerged from SVTI’s own port workers, who at the beginning of the fires went to the area to make firewalls, but, as days went by, they got to know the reality of the inhabitants and raised before the Company the need to provide more concrete help. This translated in the donation of prefabricated homes.

SVTI’s General Manager, Eduardo González, highlighted the commitment of the workers of the terminal’s unions. “Our workers’ initiative to help Hualqui’s affected families reflects their commitment to the region and to those who need it most. They were not only involved in requesting a solution to help the families, but they also actively participated in the construction of the first house”, stated González.

The house, built by collaborators from SVTI together with leaders of the area, is 50.3 m2, and has two bedrooms, kitchen and a living and dining area. The rest of the houses will be delivered within the coming weeks.
