Iquique, March, 2017. Through an unconventional operation involving docking the vessel by the stern, Iquique Terminal Internacional (ITI) embarked 108 trucks in Evangelistas Navimag Ferry, a maneuver that had not been performed since 2009 at the terminal.

ITI’s Operations Manager, Henry Balboa, explained that “it is traditional for vessels to dock parallel to the berthing site, but in this case, for purposes of facilitating embarkation of the cargo, Evangelistas Ferry docked stern-first, a maneuver requiring not only a careful planning, but also special tide and wind conditions, among others. In this case it was carried out successfully in about 50 minutes”.

The trucks’ destination is Punta Arenas (in the far South of Chile), and they were transported from Parque Industrial de Zona Franca in Alto Hospicio (Northern Chile). “The success of this novel operation, was the result of meticulous planning and the professionalism of ITI’s workers. This enables us to maintain the trust of our clients and make progress in consolidating ourselves as terminal, proving that with technology and logistics methods we are prepared for executing complex tasks”, said the executive.
