Santiago, August 07, 2025. | The Corporate Sustainability Ranking, published by the Brinca consulting firm, the Business School of the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (UAI) and El Mercurio, named SAAM the most sustainable company in Chile’s transportation and logistics industry.
“This recognition reflects our committed, responsible efforts to embed sustainability at the core of our strategy. Sustainability is not an added responsibility; it is a way of doing business and shaping our company’s future,” said SAAM CEO Macario Valdés.
The ranking, which evaluated 150 companies across 15 industries, ranked SAAM first in its category based on an analysis of over 60 indicators covering three main areas: environment, social impact, and corporate governance (ESG). The criteria adhere to international standards, including GRI, PRI, and SASB, as well as the Financial Market Commission’s General Standard (NCG) No. 461.
Sustainability efforts
SAAM’s milestones in this area include the new Sustainability Strategy, a seventh consecutive year on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index MILA, the first two electric tugboats in Canada and the first in Chile, and ongoing efforts to manage emissions, energy, waste and water use.
The company has also set several goals for 2030, such as having 100% of onboard personnel trained under the SAAM Towage curriculum, reaching 10% of tugboats with sustainable propulsion and neutralizing 65% of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions through reduction and carbon offsetting initiatives.
