SAAM Receives Cutting Edge Tug to Reinforce its Services in Panama

Turkey, August 23, 2021. Sanmar Shipyards has already delivered SAAM Towage’s new tug, which will join the company’s fleet in Panama, where it has positioned itself as the main supplier of towage services along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.

The SAAM Palenque—designed by Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd.—is a “sister vessel” of the SAAM Valparaíso, which operates in Panama, and the SAAM Albatros, currently operating in Peru.

“At SAAM Towage we are very proud and pleased with this compact, high-quality, efficiently designed and well-equipped tug. It adapts perfectly to our local customers’ expectations and will allow us to continue providing safe, efficient service,” remarked Technical Manager Pablo Cáceres.

The tug has already cast off from Altinova for a 35-day journey to Cristóbal, Panama.

 

Specifications

The vessel’s technical specs include a compact size, measuring 24.4 meters in length and spanning 11.25 meters in beam. It is powered by two Caterpillar 3516C main engines, each achieving 2,100 kW at 1,600 rev/min, and boasts bollard pull of up to 72 tons and a top speed of 12.5 knots.

Tank capacities include 72,400 liters of fuel oil and 10,800 liters of fresh water. It also has “Fire-Fighting 1” class notation thanks to its fire-fighting pump with a capacity of 2,700 m3/hour.

Lastly, the vessel provides all the comforts needed for a crew of up to six, including a crew lounge, galley, showers and double cabins, all of which are heated and air-conditioned.
